The Faculty of Law has organized a Guest Lecture on the topic ” White Collar Crimes in India ” on 24th January 2024 from 12 PM to 1.30 PM at Smart Room, Phase 2 Campus.

The Speaker of the session was Prof. Dr. N.Devanathan, Professor, Faculty of Law, Dr.MGR Educational and Research Institute. The session was insightful for the students to gain awareness on the rising trend of white collar crimes. The Speaker stressed on the need to create public awareness regarding white collar crimes and their nature. The society encounters white collar crimes on an everyday basis but fails to recognise it as a crime.

White collar crimes are those crimes that were committed by the people of the upper socio economic class of the society as defined by the American Sociologist, Edwin Sutherland. The lecture also highlighted the various economic sectors in which such white collar crimes are prevalent such as medicine, education, engineering and law. The Indian Judiciary has played a vital role in eradicating such white collar crimes in various cases such as the 2G Spectrum case, Nirav Modi Scandal and Harshat Mehta Scam.

The session was organised by Dr. R Gomathy Sankari and convened by Mrs. R. Jeevitha.
