The Faculty of Law has organized a Guest Lecture the topic “Ancient Tamil Jurisprudence and Polity” on 02nd of September 2023 from 12.00 to 1.30 pm at Smart Class Room – K102. The speaker of the session was Dr.S.Anandha Krishna Raj, Associate Professor, VIT School of Law, Chennai.
The speaker has started his lecture by comparing the western jurisprudence with the Tamil jurisprudence and explained how far the western thoughts have impacted on the Indian Sub-Continent all these centuries. He stated that Tamil way of learning jurisprudence have been systematically neglected in the legal curriculum. Also, he spoke on the concepts of Dharma in Manusmriti and Aram in Thirukkural, Agananooru, Purananooru, etc. Futher, he mentioned about the impact of both Manusmriti and Aram on the society, especially women. He narrated how women during ancient times were treated worse by the patriarchal society and mentioned about the transformation they attained during the contemporary period. Finally, he explained in a precise manner about the Aram, Dharma and International Law. At the outset, it was a thought-provoking session that made the students to enrich with knowledge on the jurisprudence under the ambit of “Ancient Tamil Jurisprudence”. The session was conducted by the Organising Secretaries, Dr.R.Chandrasekar, Mr.S.Ahamed Kabeer and Mr.M.Venkat Raj; Event Convenors, Dr.R.Gomathy Sankari and Mrs. R. Jeevitha.
