The faculty of 3rd year B. Arch course organized a 2-day workshop for the students of the same corresponding to their syllabus on Pile Foundations and Tensile Structures, for the subject Building Construction V. The workshop was guided by Ar. Mishra K, Principal Architect of DesignDuos Enterprises. The supervisor is well versed in the field of tensile structures and flexible structures. He was able to explain every aspect of flexible fabric structures and tensile structures through the design and construction perspective to the students.
The faculty in charge of this event is Ar. Zakia and Ar. Sushmita. This 2 day workshop event took place in the design studio of 3rd yr B.Arch batch, on 03.11.2022 (Thursday) and 07.11.2022 (Monday).
The expert first explained about the basics of pile foundation and how the method of construction takes place varying on the type of usage and the necessity. He demonstrated different tools used for making the model of pile foundation, and gave a crash course on using plaster of paris to make models. He also took the time to discuss the different types of materials used for making the pile foundations.
On the second day of the workshop, he concentrated on fabric and tensile structures. He spoke about how it works and where it is used. He showed the students different examples and case studies of tensile structures. He demonstrated how to make models of tensile structures, and explained the different types of materials that can be used to recreate these models.
Students had a hands-on session on model making of the pile foundations and the tensile structures and the two day was very well organized with a knowledge-gaining session which was very supportive for the students, both theoretically and practically.
It was a very interactive session as the students with the guidance of the expert resource personnel, took a hands-on approach to the model making. He also gave students tips on how to think in terms of safety and functionality of during the design process. He encouraged the students to ask questions directly as he was explaining, thereby having a lively interactive Q&A session.
The overall feedback of the students was overwhelmingly positive, and the students gained a fresh perspective looking through a the designers point of view in regards to the structural design and construction.
