The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Association with IEEE MGR Student Chapter and Power Club organized an Institutional Social Responsibility Program on Energy Awareness on 20.04.2022 from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m at Dr.M.G.R Educational and Research Institute. Dr. Chetan S. Solanki, Professor, IIT Bombay, Solar man of India, Brand Ambassador of Solar Energy Govt of MP was invited as Chief Guest to present a talk on Energy, Climate change and I.
Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki is an educator, researcher and innovator. He has undertaken Energy Swaraj Yatra from November 2020 through a solar bus for 11 years, until 2030. In the wake of serious and catastrophic climate change, this Energy Swaraj Yatra is designed with the purpose to create a public movement towards adoption of 100% solar energy.
The Program started with a welcome address by Dr. S. Bhuvaneswari, HoD/EEE. Dr. G. Gopalakrishnan, Provost welcomed and appreciated the initiative taken by Prof. Chetan. He insisted all the participants to utilize the Renewable energy available in nature and preserve them to save our planet. Dr. V. Cyril Raj, Addl. Registrar encouraged the students to create innovative ideas to reduce global warming. Dr. L. Ramesh, Joint Registrar- EPA motivated the students to follow the principles of Prof. Chetan in way of thinking about the welfare of the society and Climatic change.
Prof. Chetan presented on the impact of Carbon dioxide on climatic change and the reasons for its rise in level. He explained even a small workdone by human emit Co2 which may influence greenhouse effect and increase the planet temperature to 1.1 degrees within 8 years which may have a greater disaster effect on the planet. He insisted all the participants to adopt AMG (Avoid, Minimize and Generate) principle for utilization of energy. Finally, he concluded the lecture by insisting everyone to go for 100% Solar Energy in their lifetime.
The session concluded with Q & A session. The session was very interactive and informative for the students and faculty members.
