Department of Chemical Engineering in association with NSS WING proudly report awareness program dated 30.11.21 about the Single use of plastics-Bone/Bane the order and initiative by Govt of India, based on which the program had been initiated in the department.

Welcome speech given by Dr.N.Jaya Chitra, Professor and Head, Dept of Chemical Engineering
Dr.V.Cyrilraj, Additional Registrar had given special address in which sir had given brief synopsis of the given title that had been later appreciated by our today’s chief guest, I thank for his presence and support with us today.
Chief guest introduction was done by Dr.K.Sujatha, Dean, NIRF. Overall coordination was done by Mrs Francis panimathy, Asst.professor, Dept of Chemical Engineering.

The Cheif Guest Dr. B. R. Natarajan , Professor & Head of the Department Chemical Engineering, Banasthali University, Rajasthan. Spoke all about the topic “single use of plastic Boon or Ban”.

The Guest speaker explained used single use plastic waste and its environmental effect, like 300 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, and not all of it is recycled. To put that into perspective, that’s equivalent to the weight of the entire human population.
• Only 9% of all plastic produced is recycled
• A whopping 2 million plastic bags are used every minute worldwide
• Single-use plastics are illegal in some parts of the world
• Every minute of every day a truckload of plastic is dumped into the ocean
• 73% of beach litter worldwide is plastic
• One million plastic bottles are bought every minute
• There could be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050
• Up to 95% of plastic polluting oceans is carried by 10 rivers
99% of seabirds will be eating plastic by 2050
• The average person eats 70,000 microplastics each year
• The average time that a plastic bag is used is just 12 minutes
• Over the past 50 years, world plastic production has doubled
• Pollution problem using single use of plastics for the living organism and non living organism
• They were also explained , How to do reduce the plastic pollution and Handling without harming in the environment
