This international immersion program was initiated by the Office of International Relations in collaboration with the Faculty of Physiotherapy. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Honourable Chairman Sir, Honourable President Sir, and Principal of Physiotherapy for their invaluable support and guidance, which made this immersion camp a tremendous success.
Day 1 Report: Arrival in KLIA
The students arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4:45 AM. After completing immigration formalities and collecting baggage, they boarded the college bus at 7:00 AM. The group arrived at the IBIS STYLE hotel in Johor by 12:15 PM, settled in, had lunch, and started for Malacca around 3:00 PM. They returned to the IBIS hotel by 9:45 PM.
Day 2: Visit to IHT REHAB, Johor
Students arrived at IHT Rehab Center by 9:30 AM. Orientation started at 10:00 AM in the auditorium. Dr. Karuna, Senior Physiotherapist, delivered the orientation for the Physiotherapy Bootcamp, followed by Dr. Kabilar Balachandran on fire hazards and safety in rehab facilities. Dr. Thiyagarajan gave a lecture on rehab team roles. Lunch break was from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. In the afternoon, students were split into two groups led by Dr. Thiyagarajan and Dr. Karuna for multidisciplinary visits and demonstrations on hydrotherapy, pain management, gym, Cyberdyne, occupational therapy, and dietitian services. Tea break was at 4:45 PM, and by 5:15 PM they returned to the hotel.
Day 3: Visit to IHT REHAB, Johor
Students arrived by 9:30 AM. Dr. Thiyagarajan delivered a lecture on the nervous system and advanced neurology physiotherapy until 12:15 PM. After lunch, students rotated through departments including pain management, gym, Cyberdyne, hydrotherapy, occupational therapy, dietitian, speech therapy, and psychology from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. Tea break was from 3:30 to 4:00 PM. Clinical posting and a cooldown session with patients and therapists followed. They reached the hotel by 5:45 PM and visited AEON mall until 8:30 PM.
Day 4: Day at IHT Rehab Center
Students arrived by 9:30 AM. Dr. Thiyagarajan led a session on Scope of Practice in Advanced MSK Physiotherapy covering clinical reasoning, manual therapy, exercise prescription, and collaboration. A photo session was held at 11:45 AM. A talk on sports rehabilitation covered biomechanics and technology-driven rehab. After lunch, students experienced hands-on clinical exposure in various departments. Tea break was at 4:00 PM. The day ended with agility training led by Dr. Thiyagarajan and Dr. Sharmili. Students returned to the hotel by 6:00 PM.
Day 5: Visit to IHT Rehab Center
The day began at 9:30 AM with Dr. Nizam presenting on Lokomat robotic gait therapy, followed by a lecture on Cyberdyne HAL technology. Dr. Sharmila demonstrated high-level mobility assessment techniques. Dr. Thiyagarajan demonstrated therapeutic taping and cupping techniques. After lunch, students rotated through gym, Cyberdyne, Lokomat, pain management, speech therapy, and dietitian departments. Tea break was at 3:30 PM. Clinical training continued until 5:00 PM. In the evening, students visited Country Garden man-made beach and returned to the hotel by 8:15 PM.
Day 6: Visit to IHT Rehab Center
Students arrived by 9:45 AM. Dr. Hakim presented on occupational therapy topics including cognitive rehab, ADL rehabilitation, hand function, and return-to-work therapies. Dr. Thiyagarajan gave a case presentation. Dr. Sharmili delivered a session on hydrotherapy principles and techniques. After lunch, the IHT team shared their experiences with students. Certificates were awarded to students and faculty, marking the successful completion of the camp. Students returned to the hotel by 5:00 PM, refreshed with snacks, then traveled to Youth City Residence Nilai by 8:00 PM.
Day 7: Cultural Excursion – Central Market, Chinatown, Little India, and Twin Towers
The day started at 9:00 AM with a guided tour of Central Market and Chinatown, where students shopped and explored. Lunch was enjoyed in Little India, followed by more shopping of Indian products. Later, students visited Harriston Boutique and Chocolate Factory. The highlight was an evening visit to the iconic Twin Towers. The group returned to Youth City Residence Nilai by 10:00 PM, ending a day rich in cultural experiences.
Day 8: Final Day – Times Square Mall and Departure Preparation
Students visited Times Square Mall from 9:00 AM, enjoying shopping and the theme park. Lunch was at the mall, followed by leisure time. The group returned to Youth City Residence Nilai by 6:30 PM. Students packed and prepared for their return journey, with their flight scheduled for the following day. The day marked the end of an enriching and memorable physiotherapy immersion camp in Malaysia.
