International Seminar on ‘Motivating Students to Learn: Do Carrots and Sticks Work?”

The Faculty of Education is delighted to present the report of the International Seminar on ‘Motivating Students to Learn: Do Carrots and Sticks Work?” collaborated with International Relations & Collaboration Cell and Department of Defense and Strategic Studies on 18/09/2024 @11.00 a.m. in Phase 2 Campus, Adayalmpattu. The session hosted by Dr.Martin Lamb, Senior Lecturer, School of Education, University of Leeds, UK. He highlighted about Intrinsic motivation comes from internal desires like interest and personal satisfaction, leading to deeper, long-term engagement. Extrinsic motivation is driven by external rewards or avoiding penalties, often resulting in short-term effort. Both are important, but intrinsic motivation fosters lasting learning and growth. He led various activities and posed numerous thought-provoking questions to the audience, encouraging active participation and discussion. The session was highly interactive, sparking deep insights into different aspects of motivation. Attendees were fully engaged, sharing their perspectives, which enriched the overall learning experience. The vibrant exchange of ideas made the session both stimulating and highly collaborative.
