The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies today conducted Guest Lecture Program program on “Energy Security” by Dr. O. Nirmala, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Guru Nanak College (Autonomous), Chennai
at the Civil Smart Classroom, AK Block, Main Campus from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.
Dr. Nirmala ma’am, provided a concise overview to the students on the vast subject matters dealt in Defence and Strategic Studies as well as the need to have an holistic approach towards understanding strategic significance and security aspects of national and international events and situation. Heading into the topic for the day the Guest Speaker highlighted how significant is environmental crisis affecting India and the world thereby making energy security an important component of national security. The speaker in her lecture presented real life situations and crisis which is dealt by one and all in the current times highlighting the need to take environmental education, sustainability and conservation as areas of utmost attention.
She also suggested practical methods as alternatives towards energy conservation to avoid escalation of issues related to the globe especially Global warming, climate change, ozone depletion and carbon footprints.
55 Students from IInd year , Ist year students of the Department attended this Guest Lecture program.
