The Faculty of Law organized a Guest Lecture on the topic “Judicial Pronouncements in Family Law Issues and Challenges on 2nd February 2024 from 12 PM to 1.30 PM at Smart Room, Phase 2 Campus.
The speaker of the session was Prof. P.B.Pankaja, Professor, Faculty of Law, Dr.MGR Educational and Research Institute. The speaker was introduced by Mrs.D.Vijayalakshmi, Asst.Professor Faculty of Law, Dr.MGRERI, who was the session’s organiser.
At the beginning of the session, the speaker passed a self-exercise questionnaire to the students. The test contained questions on the topic of classical and modern coparcenary and daughter’s capacity as coparcenary in Hindu Joint Family. After that, the speaker lectured on what the law says about the topic and how the courts interpret it.
The speaker delved into Modern coparcenary and Post-1986 legal initiatives by Central and State Government for giving coparcenary rights to daughters, giving importance to the Hindu Succession (Amendment) Act, 2005. Then the speaker explained the dual property system and landmark case laws in this topic.
The speaker ended the session by proposing how we should go through the journey ahead in this field which included legislative activism in the right direction, educating women regarding their rights and spreading awareness.
