The Department of Biotechnology is pleased to share the successful completion of the insightful lecture, “Liquid Biomarkers—The Future of Cancer Diagnostics”, which took place on 21st February 2025 at the Bioinformatics Lab, 3rd Floor, Anna Block. The event provided an excellent opportunity for students and faculty to explore the cutting-edge advancements in cancer diagnostics.

The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Ms. Shanmuga Priya, a third-year B. Tech Biotechnology student. Following this, Ms. Preethika, also a third-year BTech Biotechnology student, delivered a thoughtful introduction to our esteemed speaker, providing an overview of her contributions to the field of cancer research and to the department of biotechnology.

During the subject lecture, Er. K. Aparna delved deep into the mechanisms and clinical significance of CTCs. She explained how liquid biopsies, through the detection of tumor cells in the bloodstream, can serve as a minimally invasive method for monitoring cancer progression, assessing treatment efficacy, and enabling early detection. She elaborated on how this approach could reduce the dependence on conventional tissue biopsies, which are often painful, invasive, and difficult to repeat frequently.

The session was both insightful and thought-provoking, with the speaker balancing technical depth with clarity. As she concluded, she acknowledged that while liquid biopsies hold great promise, they cannot yet replace traditional biopsies entirely. More rigorous research, clinical validation, and technological advancements are required before they can become a standard diagnostic tool. However, she expressed optimism that with sustained efforts, this method could significantly enhance cancer care in the near future.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Thoufiq Ayubkhan, a third-year BTech Biotechnology student. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the speaker for sharing her expertise, to the organizing team for their dedication, and to all attendees for their active participation.
