The Faculty of Architecture conducted a Guest Lecture for the Students of 2nd yr B. Arch, for their Architectural Design Studio Class. The Guest Ar. SelvaPrakash is the founder and principal architect of firm Studio 15, who has done many project in the field of architecture and interior design. He has been very active various forums like Event Management, Project Management, debates, television industry and YouTube channels. A welcome address was given by Ar. Deepiga. The Subject Lecture was conducted with focus on School Design, with an in-depth perspective into how to approach the designing of a school. The concept behind how to analysis a school design based on its needs and function, with relevance to the room arrangements and traffic patterns were explained, and the process behind how theoretical and practical implementation of designs differ was briefed. The lecture also covered different aspects of design, such as the room to student ratio, arrangement and alignment of the spaces, site selection, etc. Ar. Selvaprakash also spoke in detail about the special conditions taken into consideration when designing a CBSE school. He explained every aspect of design, right from the concept to the final stage of the technical drawings used for approval, and construction stage, with the help of visual aids taken from his very own school design project. At the end, the students had a very interactive question and answer session, where they spoke in length about turing their concepts to a working project. The event was organised by Ar. Deepiga and Ar. Zakia, of Faculty of Architecture. The students gained an in-depth knowledge on the workings of the school design and the many factors to be considered while designing. The overall feedback from the students was great.
