The Faculty of Humanities and Science, Department of English organized A National Level E – Workshop today (22.09.2021) on the topic “Speak to create your future.” The program was hosted live through StreamYard Platform and broadcast in the department YouTube channel titled “Department of English, Dr. MGR E&RI”.
Mr. Arindam Sengupta, ESL Teacher , Trainer , directorate of school education, Government of West Bengal, Alumnus of the Texas Intensive English Program ,Austin , Texas ( USA) & Global Professional Member of TESOL International, was called to be the resource person of the day. The objective of the talk was to motivate the audience in mastering the art of speaking the language of English as ESL learners and encourage students to converse in English employing interactive methodology in classrooms and further maximize the learners potential to imbibe the language.
The resource person Mr. Arindam Senguptha started his presentation by emphasising on the importance of speaking as a skill and moved on to explain the challenges ESL students face in developing comunicative ability in the classroom. He also elaborated the importance of ‘Talk’ in the ESL classroom and finally he provided a list of activities and strategies that would help develop oral skills to an ESL learner. His presentation was well received by participants and it was evident through the wonderful feedback they shared in the YouTube chat box.
The E-Workshop was hosted by Dr. P.Harshini, Professor, Department of English. Dr. Meena Rani, Assistant Professor, Department of English warmly welcomed the gathering. Ms. Vishwa Priya , Assistant Professor, Department of English introduced the resource person to the audience. Ms. R. Akshaya, Assistant Professor, Department of English cum technical host moderated the Q & A session followed by vote of thanks by Ms. Rebecca Charlotte , Assistant Professor, Department of English.
The Department of English is much indebted to Honourable President Er. A.C. S. Arunkumar for his valuable consent and support to organize this event on a grand scale. Special thanks is also accorded to Vice Chancellor Dr. S. Geethalakshmi, Registrar Dr. C.B. Palanivelu and all other eminent dignitaries of the University for their constant encouragement. The department owes its gratitude in large measure to Dr. D.B. Jabaraj Addl. Registrar (E&S Campus) for being a pillar of enormous strength and support. On the whole this National Level E – Workshop proved to be a grand success. More than 400 participants from various parts of the nation registered and the event crossed nearly 500 views in the Department YouTube channel.
