An Interdisciplinary lecture on the topic “DENGUE – A CONTINUING THREAT” was organized by the Department of Electricals and Electronics Engineering in Association with IEEE MGR Student Chapter on 16th September 2021. The Interdisciplinary lecture was held via Zoom Meet platform and more than 200 students had participated. The Session commenced around 11.00 A.M. The Speaker of the session was Dr.V.KALPANA DEVI, M.B.B.S. M.D., Professor Department of Microbiology,A.C.S. Medical College and Hospital, Principal In-Charge, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Dr.M.G.R Educational & Research Institute,Chennai. The welcome speech was delivered by Dr.S.Bhuvaneswari,HoD/EEE.The event was hosted by Ms.Swetha,II year BMI.
The session started with a brief introduction what is Dengue Viruses and its types. The speaker elucidated about the Dengue – vector and Transmission of Dengue viruses. Then speaker also explained the Dengue Pathogenesis and Dengue clinical syndromes.
Finally, the speaker elucidated in detail on the topics such as Dengue clinical features, laboratory diagnosis. She also clearly explained about the Dengue treatment and availability of dengue vaccine. She gave ideas how to avoid dengue causing mosquitoes with prevention materials and community participation.
At last, the speaker insisted on PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
The session concluded with the Q & A session and the speaker cleared all the queries asked by the participants. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms.Sneha of II year BMI. Thus, the students got aware on the threat due dengue viruses and gained an idea on prevention measures and how to overcome them.
